Getting the Party Started
It is hard to believe that I posted the first post so long ago and while I had all those great intentions of coming back and adding in the missing information, then — well, then stuff happened, there were holidays, vacations, you know, life. So, I was told this morning, “You know we are getting a lot of traffic to the Fiber Frenzy page.” And I thought, “oh, no — I think people are seeing me without my make-up on.” Hence, it is time to put the make-up on and begin the actual updates of all that is going on in Fiber Frenzy Headquarters.
First, if you haven’t heard of Sea Socks, I’d suggest you go there and read up on all the fun that the Spring Sock Cruise are having. At least it will give you a small glimpse at what we will be doing on a bigger scale for the Frenzy in the Fall.
Next, have you heard who is coming on the cruise? As a word of warning, I asked my dear friends to write their own bios — they got busy and didn’t — so I’m writing them for them, I think this will show them not to get busy next time, right?
- Well, you know about my buddy Mama E. She’s this amazing fiber artist, she spins, she knits, she dyes, she teaches….it goes on and on. While I’m most thrilled that she takes my calls and chats with me about everything from kids to yarn, she is this awesome artist. Sidenote: I’m part of every yarn club Mama E has put together and today, I got this skein in the mail. It was literally a ray of sunshine in my box — more like sunset in wool, but still — holding it warmed my heart. Calling her to gush made me a little lightheaded. So, all of that to tell you, that my buddy Mama E will be cruising, teaching, partying with us.
- Also from our core crowd on Sea Socks is Amie Glasgow of Rose by Any. Amie is an accomplished knitter and spinner. She teaches both as well as writing all sorts of patterns (just see the Sea Monster Socks). Amie holds a special place in my heart, because she has never laughed at my dumb, design questions (like when I e-mailed her, “I have 350 yards of sock weight yarn and think it needs to be a shawl — is it possible; and what pattern help can you give me?” yup, that’s all I asked — she was patient and wonderful helping me decide to use some of my 3,000 yards of mohair I have — longer story — and where to turn to get ideas — she even offered to look over my plan, you know for moral support.) Now, in other great things about Amie is that she is the mastermind behind 2000 socks in 2006 — I wonder what she’ll cook up for 2007.
- Have you ever heard of the Clapotis? No? Well, I’m hard pressed to point any other design that has become so popular amoung so many knitters. Can you name the designer? I know I can, because she’s coming on the cruise! Oh, yes, Kate Gilbert (and the day she called my office to accept the invitation, I ran into the street and screamed to the neighbors — yes, they think I’m a little odd, why?) is joining us. Oh, but she’s not just eye candy. She’s teaching some design classes, designing patterns EXCLUSIVELY for us, AND even offering a small group intense design class (for an added fee, yet to be determined).
So, what do you think? I think we’ve got an amazing group of folks. There’s one more coming who I’ll announce as soon as I get her fully lined up!
