
MSC Cruises has announced that they have ordered a third Panamax ship and have signed an option for fourth to be built by Alstom Chantiers de l’Atlantique. The ships are expected to be priced between $400 to $450 million each.
This contract means MSC Cruises now has orders in for five vessels. MSC Musica will be delivered in June, and sister MSC Orchestra arrives in 2007. The company will deliver two ships in 2008, including the new order and the 133,500gt MSC Fantasia, while a second post-Panamax ship, MSC Serenata, will arrive in 2009.
Word from Alstom Chantiers de l’Atantique is that construction of MSC Musica has been going well, with total construction time from keel-laying to delivery expected to be 16 months.
