By all accounts it’s looking like Alaskans have approved the tax measure that was on yesterday’s ballot. By Wednesday morning 87% of the precincts had been counted and the results were at 52.4% in favor of a $50 head tax on cruise passengers.
In addition to the head tax, the measure calls for taxes on gambling profits onboard cruise ships, taxes on corporate profits, independent licensed engineers to monitor pollution as well as disclosures on tour sales.
The next step is for Alaskan officials to figure out how to implement the new tax measure.
